Policy on searching for trials on behalf reviewers
- Searching is carried out at least twice yearly on behalf of reviewers carrying out reviews in gynaecological cancer.
- Only the Group's Specialised Register of gynaecological cancer trials and Non-Trials Database are searched. Searches of other databases e.g. CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE etc. must be carried out by the authors of reviews, except in exceptional circumstances and where resources permit.
- Only contact reviewers will be notified of the search results.
- A separate search is carried out for each review, so reviewers carrying out/maintaining more than one review may receive duplicate citations.
- The coding system used is simple (see 'codes' sheet) and the search strategies for reviews are designed to be over-inclusive to ensure trials are not missed. Reviewers may therefore be sent citations that relate to studies outside the scope of their reviews.
- Search results are sent to reviewers as citations marked to show if the editorial base has a copy of the full text which may be loaned to the reviewer on request.
- There is no Group Register for trials that may be included in the 'orphan' cancer reviews, but searches will be carried out for those that include gynaecological cancer.
